Lightenupandshoot.com Creative Lighting – Workshop Review

October 26th, 2010

I recently attended a creative lighting workshop hosted by Mikey & Andy from Lightenupandshoot.com.  If you are new to off camera flash, I suggest you head over to their site to learn all of the basics of off camera flash.

Lightenupandshoot.com – Mikey & Andy were great. If you read the v-book prior to class you will be in the perfect mind set for what is about to come. Most have probably seen their youtube videos already, and their personalities are right on par with the videos. When you meet them, they make you feel like you have been friends for years, and this is how everyone wants to be treated (especially shy people like myself.) After you learn the essentials you practice them, and everyone knows practice makes perfect. They do not get frustrated with people, even if they don’t understand something. They will explain it in a different way, and make sure that you are comfortable with that particular item.

After the class I was able to produce this image, with my new knowledge, which has had great reviews so far.

Model - Erin

Without hesitation I would attend another class (not that I need to learn the same things again) but they always tailor to the needs of each student, and hanging out with these guys is awesome. In fact I am trying to find a way to get out of work so I can attend this weekends Phoenix workshop.

U.S. Open of Surfing (huntington beach, ca)

August 20th, 2010

I recently went to the U.S. Open of Surfing and took a few pictures.  Alot of great surfing to be shot there.  Check it out next year http://usopenofsurfing.com/ Going just as a photographer is a great experience (except for lugging around all that gear).  There is much more to photograph than just the surfing competition, there is plenty of art, people, and other sporting events going on at the same time.  Even during the other 51 weeks of the year that the US Open isn’t going on, there is plenty to be seen in Huntington Beach, CA.  For those reasons, this is probably one of my favorite places to visit.  Please check out the full gallery HERE and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
